Scott Simpson, on the complexity of riding the bus

merlin:

SCOTT: I don’t know what to do. How much is it gonna cost? Am I gonna need exact change? Can I pay by credit card? Do I wave something at the driver? Do I get a discount? Am I allowed to ride the bus?

ADAM: You do. You wave something at the driver. Who happens to be magnetic.

I’d so do either of those guys.

100 Interviews is going to be a book!!!!!!

100interviews:

gabydunn:

A year ago, I moved to New York City.

A year ago, I was 21 years old, having graduated from college two months before. I was living with my brother, my sister-in-law and my infant nephew.

A year ago, I was directionless — an arrow aimed at nothing.

It’s insane what’s happened since this past October.

THE CAT IS OUT OF THE BAG.

I signed with a literary agent to write a book based on 100 INTERVIEWS.

In case you haven’t heard!

Pimping my alma mater. This blog rules, and it’s going to be a book. Get in on the ground floor, you guys.

“The arts are not a way of making a living. They are a very human way of making life more bearable. Practicing an art, no matter how well or badly, is a way to make your soul grow, for heaven’s sake. Sing in the shower. Dance to the radio. Tell stories. Write a poem to a friend, even a lousy poem. Do it as well as you possibly can. You will get an enormous reward. You will have created something.” —

Kurt Vonnegut, A Man Without a Country, 2005 (via happythings.)

I wish I could have met Kurt just to say thank you.

“When we read it we realized that, essentially, unless you save money, you’re going to be working for other people until you’re dead. We don’t want to do that, so we decided to budget. When we got married we set up a joint bank account, and we looked at what we had coming in, and we looked at what we were spending, and we cut down.” —

Matt Davis, 2010
